EDIT: Thank you all for the Daily Deviation, favorites and comments. Today is my birthday, so what a splendid and surprising gift from the dA community!

Page 07 Author's Notes: The crystals, oh the crystals (which were so worth the labor of love). Rory is going the only way she can, through the passage, which has turned into a strange cave lit by crystals. The crystals have faces in them (yes there was some cheating with them, and they are from pieces around the gallery) and she thinks she spies ... but she'd cut off mid thought by the statue (really, Rory, you are surprised it came to life when you weren't looking?). Faces of the future, mayhap? And one familiar ... no no, won't say ... Spoilers. :D Play a little "I spy".

The sad faced state/angel tries to get Rory to come (maybe he doesn't like the job he's been animated to do), but she's having none of it. Enter the first instance of me giggling behind my chair thinking "Run, Rory, run!" Hmm, and why can you see an aurora over the ledge of the cave ceiling?

I think this prologue has one page left.

Infinite Spiral: Prologue: Aurora:
Rory (Aurora) Perkins is just a normal girl spending the waning days of summer with her grandparents in the country. When she sets out to catch fireflies one evening, little does she know her curiosity will cause her to leave her own world behind forever, journeying into the Infinite Spiral of realities.

Infinite Spiral: Prologue 07 by ~novemberkris is full of surprises even on the early pages of this comic series. You will be surprised in the twist and turn of events, thus giving the readers excitement everytime you jump to another page. Plus, the cinematic effect in the colors are brilliant which will draw you close to the scene. ( Featured by jcroxas )

You blink and your dead. I PROMISE her name being Rory and the angel thing didn't start as a Doctor Who reference. I actually had one heck of a dream ... Now it just is there ... Waiting. Rory is short for Aurora, honest. :)

Happy birthday! ATM this story is creepy and exciting in equal measure, especially with the faces in the crystals. (Little Mermaid anyone?)

Thank you! I hadn't even thought of Little Mermaid (wow, there are scenes in that I could not watch for years). I actually was thinking of the Care Bear's movie (the one where they all get trapped in little crystals) when I was completing this page. That combined with these picture books I read as a kid about a pegasus that became a unicorn with a crystal for a horn (strange story about getting lost then becoming something special, but I used to love it).

I'm glad you think so ... styles I know can be so subjective. I wasn't the one I expected to use for this tale. Now I just have to get all those ... foundations up to snuff (every artist's study every day, right?).

yup ^_^ I know for the comic I am attempting to wade my way through, I am still experimenting with the style as I go until I get what I like. I'm sure most comic artists do that as well when starting out. Keep up the good work!

Thanks--and yes. I had a comics class that made this click. I actually made a mini-book in it using traditional techniques--even had to use an Ames Lettering guide for one comic. I've seen a couple artist's here on dA use short comics as a way to experiment with style. :iconmistytang: has more than a few shorts using characters from a long form comic she's preparing for, and it seems like such an interesting way to play with styles and character interactions before starting a longer project. :) Good luck!

That does sound like fun! I've never had any classes specifically for comics, but I've had a lot of art classes including character design, so I'm experimenting on my own. That does sound like an interesting idea. Thanks a lot!

That's fine by me in these first pages--she's a Tomboy. ;) I haven't started to dabble in colored lines yet either. I'll try backing the line weights down next time she's in a scene and see how I feel about it. Thanks.

well being a tomboy isn't about appearing mannish. Trust me when I say, thinner lines or no lines at all is the best way.

Thanks for your feedback on the last panel. This was a conscious decision by me. I actually cannot stand lead female protagonists with over-exaggerated fear expressions because it gives off the vibe they are "screamers" (and if you watch as much classic Who as I do, you can understand why I find it grating). Rory has fear, but she's not a screamer, so her expression is somewhere between bewilderment of the situation and frightened. ;)

I agree with what you said about female protagonists who over exaggerate their fear, but I have to say her expression isn't reading bewilderment or fear to me at all. Her brows are arched all the way up, her mouth is very neutral, and her pose is a little stiff, so it doesn't even really look like she's trying to get away that quickly. She really just looks like she's jogging away leisurely, which gives off the impression of a female protagonist who doesn't seem to be trying very hard to get away from the mysterious, winged shirtless man in the cave (I haven't read the rest of the story yet, so forgive me XD ).

I can totally relate to not wanting a female protagonist who's a screamer, but there's a big difference between screaming in over-played horror, and backing off from something you're scared of while laying down an attitude to express to someone "You just back the #%&* up right now, buddy." The last panel feels like you downplayed her fear so much that she doesn't look scared or bewildered at all. You can play up her expression without making her a screamer. :)

What might help is putting one arm behind her instead of both hands out in front of her. Generally when you're moving, both hands aren't moving in the same direction, and this would help sell the "stay way from me" vibe if she has one hand back to keep the other man at a distance. :)

I look forward to looking through the rest of your comic, and I really enjoy the colors here! Keep it up, and congrats on the DD. <3

Also, I'm going to apologize for some upcoming anatomy struggles in advance in Chapter 01 with faces/bodies as I was fighting to nail down Christian and James. I'll need to hit up some stock if this continues ... and references for suspenders. I'm actually quite embarrassed by some of several of those--some pages were rushed between computer crashes. My inner critic isn't pleased.

As great as the feedback is, I won't unfortunately be in any position to change it any time soon. If I made all the changes I want to these early pages I'd never get any further. It is a learn and evolve as I go endeavor. I have to restrain myself from "fixing" page 01. James is a much more timid character, and will have more scenes leaning this direction-let me see if I can use this advice to help his body language read well.

Truth be told, I referenced that pose using Photobooth. All of the panels based off those are a little "stiff" for my liking. Some days, I am the only model I get. :/
