Page 09 Author's Notes: Something is wrong with me--there is just so much going on here. But, welcome, officially, to the Spiral. Rory is now a statue and we meet two new characters that will soon be caught up in the journey, along with glimpse of worlds to come.

"Silence denote and Sanctity enforce thee, Passenger of Infinity." -Emily Dickison

Infinite Spiral: Chapter One: Awakening
James Hartwell and Christian Rafferty aren't your average tweens and teens. The two are considered Wicked Children, which means they are a mixture of human and unknown, feared "magical" beings, that have since seemed to disappear. What is in their past? What is in their future? And how does Rory connect to them? Who was that white haired youth? What's next? We begin the journey here.

Thank you, I really enjoyed working on this page. I can't wait to dive into new pages this week. Traveling, work crunches, and computer problems really cut into my routine the past few weeks and I'm missing working on this (especially without rushing like a few of the library pages).

WOW excellent page! Everything is so smooth and the lineart is amazing *jealously* Do you use photoshop or another program?

Thank you so much. My lineart is done in Illustrator (layout on one layer, then each panel in its own layer or a new horizontal artboard if necessary for details). I then copy separate parts of the layout into Photoshop for coloring, that way I can always correct the layout or lineart if it doesn't work with the color applied.

Wow that is intense! I have never used Illustrator but will need to when I start art school. Is it complicated. I am so used to SAI that I have a hard time navigating anything else. I have CS5 but...scary D:

It is. I used to hate it, but now it is go to tool. Vectors for lineart is just so clean! Just don't be afraid to play with them. You can learn a lot that way.

Raster programs aren't always built for clean lineart (though you supposedly can tweak settings--Photoshop won't let me adjust pressure sensitivity so I can "paint" lines), and my pencils (even blue ones) always wind up to dark for a clean use of the "threshold" tool in traditional media. Illustrator has been nice. I pair the tablet with the pencil tool, with a large artboard (11x17 at least). The trick is, the pencil tool (with a tablet, if you use the mouse, learning to use the pen tool will be your friend) will modify selected lines if you draw too close, so sometimes you have to plan for that as you draw, but eventually you get the hang of it. The pencil tool places endpoints (usually more than you need), that you can edit with the < looking tool(I think it is called modify bezier) under the pen tool. You can also adjust smoothing on the pencil tool, which is handy when I need to free draw architecture details like arcs (though there is an arc tool). I keep meaning to do a screencast when I start lineart on a page, just to take into iMovie and do a video walkthrough of what I'm doing. There's so much to these programs I know it can be crazy to try to dive in.

Cool, I'll try to set that up once I have thumbnails, even if it is just for layout, speech balloons, and a couple panels.
